Key Functions and Objectives: Resource Development: The department focuses on the conservation and sustainable utilization of fisheries resources, ensuring long-term ecological balance and economic viability.
Recent Achievements: Fish Production Growth: The sector has registered an average annual growth of about 6% in fish production. Total fish production in the state reached 3.93 lakh tons in 2020-21, up from 2.94 lakh tons in 2015-16. Fish Seed Production: There has been a significant increase in fish seed production, from 5,678 million fry in 2015-16 to 9,886 million fry in 2020-21, ensuring a steady supply of quality seeds to farmers.

The Public Works Department (PWD) of Assam, established in 1880 during British rule, is a cornerstone of the state's infrastructure development. Initially responsible for all public infrastructure projects, the department underwent restructuring in 1956 when the Embankment and Drainage wing became an independent entity. Today, the Assam PWD operates through two primary wings:​
Key Functions and Objectives: Public Works (Roads) Department (PWRD): This wing focuses on the development, construction, and maintenance of roads and bridges across Assam. Patharkandi is a town situated in the Karimganj district of Assam, India, notable for its location near the Bangladeshi border. This region, approximately 350 kilometers south of Guwahati and 32 kilometers south of Karimganj town, is characterized by its bilingual population, primarily speaking Bengali and Bishnupriya Manipuri. Geographically, it lies along the banks of the Sunai River. As part of both the Patharkandi Assembly and Karimganj Lok Sabha constituencies, it plays a role in the political landscape of Assam.
